How much does a LOLER inspection cost?

LOLER thorough examinations are priced from your asset list: the number of items, what they are, and where they are. Here's what actually drives the cost, and how to keep it down.

There's no single price for a LOLER inspection because no two asset lists are the same, but the cost drivers are consistent, and once we've seen your equipment list we can give you a fixed quote for the visit. The five factors below are what move the number.

What moves the price

The five cost factors

Number of items

Examinations are typically priced per item, with the rate falling as the asset list grows: examining ten slings on one visit costs far less per item than one sling on its own.

Equipment type and complexity

A lifting accessory takes minutes; an overhead crane with runway beams, hoist and accessories takes considerably longer and may need load testing.

Access and location

Equipment at height, in confined spaces, or spread across multiple sites adds examination time. A single organised site visit is the cheapest way to buy inspection.

Examination frequency

Accessories and people-lifting equipment need examining every 6 months; most other lifting equipment every 12, so your annual cost depends on how your asset list splits across the two cycles.

Scheduling

Planned examinations booked in advance cost less than urgent call-outs after a certificate has lapsed, another reason not to let inspection dates sneak up on you.

The real comparison

Compare it to the cost of not inspecting

Non-compliance can result in enforcement action, costly penalties, and, in severe cases, prosecution: health and safety breaches can carry unlimited fines, and the HSE recovers its investigation costs under Fee for Intervention. Set against that, a planned examination schedule is one of the cheapest lines in a safety budget, and an uninspected failure costs far more than money.

Common questions

LOLER cost FAQs

How is a LOLER inspection usually priced?

Most providers, including us, quote from your asset list: the number of items, their types, and your site location. That produces a fixed per-visit price rather than an open-ended day rate.

Is the cheapest quote the best value?

Not always. A thorough examination is a legal record signed by a competent person. What matters is the quality of the examination and the report behind the certificate, and whether your provider is independent of equipment sales and repairs.

Does the price include the certificate and report?

With us, yes: every examination includes the Report of Thorough Examination delivered digitally through our customer portal, with reminders before the next examination is due.

How do I get an exact price?

Send us your equipment list, or just tell us roughly what you run, and we will confirm what needs examining, how often, and a fixed quote. There is no charge for the conversation.
